775 Latvian public schools begin new academic year

Print version755 public elementary and high schools in Latvia begin the new academic year today, reports LETA, according to Edite Olupe, a representative of the Education and Science Ministry.

Along with municipal schools, 60 private education institutions are also opening their doors for schoolchildren on September 1.
Approximately 22,300 first-graders will go to school for the first time in the new academic year, according to the Education and Science Ministry's estimates.
The expected figure this year is slightly lower than last year – 22,775.
