With another 42 patients diagnosed Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in Latvia has grown to 347, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Altogether, 1,046 people were tested for Covid-19 over the past 24 hours as the total number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far reached 13,805.

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control informed that 21 persons infected with Covid-19 have been hospitalized, with three persons in relatively serious condition and are currently dependent on ventilators.

As reported, epidemiologists announced on Wednesday that they have not been able to trace several new Covid-19 cases back to travelers returning from abroad or residents who contracted the virus from these travelers, which means that community spread of Covid-19 has begun in Latvia.

It has also been reported that in an effort to contain the spread of Covid-19, a state of emergency has been declared in Latvia from March 13 to April 14, imposing a number of restrictions in order to curb the infections.
