Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, has said that the Baltic countries would be occupied or destroyed since they dared to support the intervention of the Western countries in Syria

"Such statements are issued by certain politicians (yesterday I saw with my own eyes a certain statement delivered by a famous Russian politician), thus I regard them as statements based on emotions, since there were only emotions and no logical arguments in the statement on the Baltic countries," said Butkevicius in the interview with radio Ziniu Radijas on Thursday.

Butkevicius did not want to consider the reasons for these statements yet he did not rule out that one of the reasons could be the Lithuania's Presidency over the EU Council. The prime minister also said that "respectable politicians should not make such statements". He also stressed that the number of such statements tended to increase as elections in the country were approaching.
