Lithuanian Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys has discussed Lithuanian businessmen's opportunities in Ukraine on his visit to Ukraine's capital Kiev and urged Ukraine to plan investments in Lithuania.

Dainius Kreivys.

"Our business wants to go to Ukraine. Our direct investment in Ukraine for the first quarter of 2010 amounted to 100 million euros, in that sense, we are sixth there after the Netherlands, Latvia, Russia, Bulgaria and Poland. And we expect the same from the Ukrainians. I am sure that an open economy brings big dividends," said Kreivys.

At a sitting on Ukrainian-Lithuanian economic and scientific cooperation on Monday, Kreivys presented the results of economic cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine that were achieved over the past year. The favourable changes in transportation, the development of freight traffic from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea were singled out as especially valuable. The meeting also focused on electricity and railway customs issues.

The minister was accompanied to Ukraine by a delegation of Lithuanian businessmen who participated in the business forum in Kiev, writes LETA/ELTA.

According to the minister, Lithuanian products attract their buyer on the Ukrainian market more and more because of their good price-quality ratio. Lithuania, as a member state of the European Union (EU), can lend a helping hand and assist the Ukrainian businessmen to enter the huge EU market, the economy minister says. Kreivys stressed that there were all the necessary facilities: good transportation infrastructure, logistics centers, similar business concept and language skills.
