Vejonis urges Ukraine to speed up reforms, especially in combating corruption

Print versionPresident Raimonds Vejonis during a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin on September 29th urged Ukraine to speed up reforms, especially in the judiciary and combating corruption, the president's spokesman Janis Siksnis told LETA.

"We know that the reform process is not easy, but success in this area will give a strong signal to the international community and increase its support for Ukraine," Vejonis said during the meeting with the Ukrainian minister.
The president also underlined Latvia's firm and unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity. The head of the Latvian state also reiterated Latvia's position that Ukraine's opinion has to be taken into consideration in talks on the proposed UN peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin is in Latvia on a two-day working visit. The Ukrainian minister plans to attend the annual Riga Conference and participate in discussions on Ukraine's reforms and future perspectives.
