Russia is an important partner for Latvia in transport and logistics, said Latvian Transport Ministry’s state secretary Kaspars Ozolins at the 22nd international transport conference TransRussia 2017 in Moscow.

Ozolins noted the pragmatic cooperation between Latvia and Russia in transport, especially in Eurasian transportation services, and underscored that Latvia positions itself as an active member of the Eurasian transport corridor and provides its contribution in development of this transport corridor.

"Latvia as a logistics and distribution hub is interesting for many – Russia, CIS countries, Asia, Western Europe, Northern Europe and the Black Sea region," he said.

Ozolins presented information about Latvia’s transit corridor and its advantages at the plenary session of TransRussia 2017 conference.

"Asian countries are interested in our multimodal and well developed ports that are actively working not only to increase cargo handling, but also to speed up delivery efficiency," he said.

Ozolins also voiced confidence that the international transport forum will strengthen the existing contacts, promote new idea snad help to find new cooperation partners.

He also said that arrival of a container train from China to Riga has been possible thanks to well coordinated and highly professional work of the involved parties.

More than 30 Latvian companies this year participate in the Latvian stand for the forum, including Latvijas Dzelzcels railway company, Riga and Ventspils ports, Liepaja Special Economic Zone, LDz Cargo and others.
