Latvian Customs Police seize 5.2 kilos of marijuana from Belarus car

The Latvian Customs Police of the State Revenue Service on December 7, 2016, seized 5,213 grams of marijuana from a Volkswagen Passat car driven by a Belarus citizen. A criminal procedure has been launched, reports LETA.

Based on information about possible contraband of drugs, a Volkswagen Passat car registered in Belarus was stopped near Riga and taken for a detailed customs inspection in Riga.


Customs officers during the inspection discovered four black plastic bags with herbal substance hidden in the compartment for the spare wheel. Two more plastic bags were discovered hidden behind the rare bumper of the car.


The customs lab tests confirmed that the seized substance is marijuana with the total weight of 5,213 grams.


A criminal procedure has been launched on illegal storage and transportation of large amounts of drugs in Latvia's territory. The Belarus citizen, born in 1971, has been taken into custody.
