Andrejs Pildegovics confirmed that Latvian businesses are closely following the developments in Ukraine, especially the process of domestic reforms and improvement of the business environment. The members of the delegation and the State Secretary expressed a mutual interest in promoting business contacts through the use of Latvian ports and the railway infrastructure for the export of goods produced in Chernihiv region to Scandinavian countries and other EU member States.

Both in economic and geographical terms, it is actually more advantageous for Chernihiv businesses to deliver their goods via the Baltic instead of the Black Sea. Governor Kulich gave thanks to Latvia and its people for support and close cooperation. The Governor also appreciated Latvia’s support offered as part of development cooperation policy for the Chernihiv Region, in the implementation of administrative and territorial reform. Latvia’s experience in particular is important for Ukraine when putting reforms in place.
