Kucinskis said that the Latvian government has always stood in for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, underscoring that Crimea is an integral part of Ukraine.

Latvian will continue supporting Ukraine in implementation of its reforms, including good governance and strengthening of judicial power, regional development and agriculture, the prime minister said.

Kucinskis said that Ukraine and Latvia have good bilateral relations and they have a potential to expand.

Considering the complicated situation in Ukraine, its government has made considerable steps in introduction of reforms. At the same time, politicians should be aware that the country’s future depends on irrevocability of its reform process and the quality of these reforms today, said Latvian Saeima speaker Inara Murniece (National Alliance) during her meeting with Ukrainian lawmakers.

Ukraine’s best response to Russia’s aggression is consistent path to a democratic and law-governed state, the Saeima press service cited Murniece.

Murniece said that Ukraine can count not only on Latvia’s political support, but also on a strong practical support of the Latvian nation, which can already be seen in a number of projects. Latvia has ensured rehabilitation to children who suffered in the war, medical treatment for injured Ukrainian troops and collected donations for Ukraine.

She underscored that Latvia will continue providing support to Ukraine’s reforms within the development cooperation projects.

The Ukrainian lawmakers also thanked the Saeima for its resolution condemning Russia’s guilty verdict on Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko.

A delegation from the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) is making a working visit to Latvia this week.
