Lithuania shares its judicial reform experience with Ukraine

President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaite met with Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Romanyuk and Chairman of the Supreme Court of Lithuania Rimvydas Norkus and discussed the Constitutional and judicial reform that is being implemented in Ukraine, reports LETA/ELTA.

Representatives of Ukrainian courts are visiting Lithuania and taking interest in its judicial system, the principles of courts' activities and Lithuania's experience in reforms improving these activities.

 

Grybauskaite said that Lithuania has walked a difficult road to make the judicial system more transparent and change the Soviet viewpoint on justice and human rights. According to her, in a democratic country courts must be independent and open to public. While Ukraine is on the right path and is making major efforts to achieve this and Lithuania is always ready to provide assistance, its experts are already contributing to reforms in Ukraine.

 

According to Grybauskaite, the judicial reform in Ukraine will improve the protection of human rights in Ukraine, will reduce corruption, ensure people's greater trust in courts and will make judges more independent.
