The Foreign Ministry informed LETA that Perebyinis congratulated the foreign minister on the successful EU Presidency and delivered official letters from Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin. The ambassador thanked Rinkevics for the support provided to Ukraine and especially for the charity concert for Ukrainian children held on July 6 at Dzintari Concert Hall.

The foreign minister confirmed that Latvia will continue providing active support to Ukraine, and underlined the importance of maintaining the current dynamic in the Ukraine-EU relationship, and utilizing the Eastern Partnership as a good platform for cooperation.

Rinkevics and Perebyinis agreed that considering the Latvian EU Presidency has drawn to a close, it is now important to put an emphasis on bilateral relations between Latvia and Ukraine. Rinkevics noted that President Raimonds Vejonis is planning an official visit to Ukraine this year.

The minister and the ambassador also discussed preparations for the intergovernmental meeting on economic relations between Latvia and Ukraine, which could take place, at Ukraine’s invitation, in 2016.

Perebyinis is a career diplomat who has been serving as the press secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry since 2014. He has served as an ambassador to Sweden, consul general to Slovakia, and as consul to Greece and to the Czech Republic.
