Lithuanian president's office: Russia's measures seek to destabilize situation in Baltics
"Indeed, Russia's efforts to influence neighbouring countries, including Lithuania, have increased since last year as its relations with Western countries become tenser. A variety of measures are systematically used to achieve this purpose, these are political, military, diplomatic, energy, economic, information measures which seek to make us vulnerable and dependent," said Valdemaras Sarapinas, chief presidential advisor on national security affairs, to the radio Ziniu Radijas.
As a very good example, the chief presidential advisor mentioned yesterday's information attack against President Dalia Grybauskaite. On Monday afternoon, a webpage publishing KGB activities was hacked and information on the alleged work of Grybauskaite at KGB was published in the webpage.
"Information warfare is increasing, as well as the number of cyber-attacks. Yesterday's hacking into the webpage of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania is yet another example of it. The president views it as ordinary information provocation, which our people are already used to," Sarapinas said.
He added that the president's office believes that Lithuanians have already learned how to separate the wheat from the chaff and to winnow truth from falsehood.
