This visit to the Baltic States and Finland is the first foreign visit of the new Swedish Prime Minister.

According to the President, Sweden has always been Lithuania's reliable partner with whom we are bound by common political interests and close economic ties. The two countries hold the same position on many issues and cooperate successfully in international organizations such as the European Union and the United Nations. President Grybauskaitė's first foreign visit was to Sweden in 2009.

The President underlined that geopolitical situation in the region called for coordinated action of the Baltic and Nordic countries, placing greater focus on information and energy security of the whole region.

Sweden is a very important energy partner of Lithuania. The NordBalt power link, constructed together with Sweden, will connect Lithuanian and Nordic power transmission systems increasing energy independence of our country. The NordBalt interconnection is planned to be launched at the end of the next year.

Sweden remains the biggest investor in Lithuania. Last autumn, Swedish investments in our country amounted to 2.89 billion euro.
