Estonian PM thanked Barroso for solid partnership with Baltic States

On Saturday, Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas met with the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso, the Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma and Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius in Tallinn, reports LETA the Government Press Office.

Rõivas stated that the agreements on the use of European Structural and Investment Funds during the years 2014-2020 with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania that were approved by the European Commission on Friday are an important step in using EU funds.

 

“We thank the European Commission for expedient processing of said agreements and for their co-operation,” said Rõivas. “The agreement will make it possible for us to use EU funds for supporting the Estonian economy and to create new jobs,” he added.

 

Barroso signed the partnership agreements with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania at the press conference in Tallinn, and handed them over to the Baltic heads of governments.

 

The European Commission estimated that Estonia is among the first countries prepared to start using the resources of the new European Union budgetary perspective.
