Lithuanian Honorary Consulate officially opened in Monaco

On 5 July at the official opening of the Lithuanian Consulate in Monaco, headed by Honorary Consul Alain Michel, Ambassador of Lithuania to Monaco Jolanta Balciuniene said that this was an important step towards advancing diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Monaco, which were established in April, reported BC the press service of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Lithuanian Ambassador, who resides in Paris, thanked the Honorary Consul for his tireless and self-sacrificing work for the benefit of Lithuania and wished for bilateral relations in the areas of politics, economy and culture to grow stronger and stronger in the future. Balciuniene noted that although the agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations with Monaco was signed just a few months ago, the two countries had enjoyed bilateral relations since much earlier – the restoration of Lithuania's Independence. The first step was made in 1992, when a meeting was held of a delegation led by the then Lithuania's leader Vytautas Landsbergis and Prince Rainier III of Monaco.

 

The Ambassador also said that Monaco, in spite of its territorial size, was an active member of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and Cooperation and the International Organization of the Francophonie, and was currently actively contributing to the financing of environmental projects.

 

According to Balciuniene, Lithuania is proud to have such a partner.

 

On behalf of the President of Lithuania, the Ambassador congratulated Prince Albert II of Monaco and his wife Charlene Wittstock on the occasion of their wedding and wished the royal couple a happy married life.

 

The solemn opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate was also attended by Lithuanian Honorary Consuls in France Anne-Marie Goussard and Pierre Minonzio, Honorary Consul in Switzerland Michel Sogny, Secretary of State of the Principality of Monaco Jacques Boisson, Head of Cabinet to Prince of Monaco Georges Lisimachio, Government Counselor for External Relations of Monaco Jose Badia, Marco Piccinini, Government Counselor for on Finance and Economy of Monaco, French Ambassador to Monaco Odile Remik-Adim and the Italian Ambassador to Monaco Antonio Morabito.
