Estonia again bans direct flights to Sweden, Norway

BC, Tallinn, 18.09.2020.Print version
Estonia has banned direct flights between Estonia and Sweden, and Estonia and Norway, effective Saturday, as the coronavirus infection rate in those countries has again climbed above 25 per 100,000 inhabitants, informed LETA/BNS.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications bases the admission and prohibition of destination countries on the morbidity rate of other countries, which must be 25 or less people per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days in order to open the route.

The number of cases per 100,000 inhabitants as at Sept. 18 was 30.3 in Sweden and 27.5 in Norway.

The ministry reviews the epidemiological situation in the countries of destination regularly and opens or restricts the opening of routes according to the spread of the virus.

The government at the end of August approved exemptions to flight restrictions for six destinations -- Frankfurt, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, Riga and Warsaw -- flights to where can be operated from Tallinn regardless of the infection rates in the respective countries.
