Cameron promises Kucinskis not to allow discrimination against guest workers
While taking part in the European Council meeting in Brussels, Kucinskis said that Latvia will do everything to protect its national interests, as well as the interests of Latvian nationals in Great Britain and EU member states’ common interests. The Latvian prime minister told his colleagues that Great Britain is home to a high number of Latvian nationals and that Latvia cares for their wellbeing.
Cameron will make sure that the Latvians, Poles and Romanians residing in Great Britain are protected and do not suffer discrimination.
Kucinskis indicated that Latvia will continue to support the achievements of the EU’s integration process but that the main emphasis in further talks will be on measures and initiatives restoring public support for and trust in the EU, as well as promoting the bloc’s security, economic growth and global competitiveness.
According to the final results of the British referendum on leaving or staying in the EU, 51.9 percent of voters supported Great Britain’s exit from the EU, while 48.1 percent voted to staying in the bloc.
