"New Circus Weekend" began in Vilnius

BC, Vilnius, 07.09.2012.Print version

New Circus Weekend has started today in Vilnius; the program has opened with a workshop for jugglers (from 10.00 till 14.00), the Vilnius Convention Bureau reports.

The festival will take place from September 6, 2012, till September 8, 2012.

This year's international festival "New Circus Weekend", is organized for the seventh time in the capital city; it presents five viewpoints towards a notion of a modern circus, writes LETA/ELTA.

Five performances, created by troupes from Croatia, France, Sweden and Lithuania, will demonstrate that this kind of circus can contain both states of being sombre and jolly, deep corners of unconsciousness and humor, capability to visualize, musical perceptiveness, enough of space and intimacy.

There will be jugglery, plastic acrobatics and combinations of street dances, visual arts and puppet-play. The modern circus can be varied, not a mere shallow show without any artistic ambitions.

On September 7, workshop for jugglers organized by Compagnie DeFracto (France) take place from 10.00-14.00.

At 15.00-17.00, a workshop for musicians, puppeteers, stage designers, organized by the circus artists "Petit Cirque" (France).

At 21.00, Ballroom House by Poetry in Motion (Sweeden) – a new circus and street dance performance planned and directed by Olle Strandberg – will take place in Vilnius.

Two people present an urban circus performance that explores the collaboration between street dance and juggling among luminous boxes, flying objects and illogical transitions.

We are researching how the participants by comparing the characteristic features of the art forms can create an entirely new way of presenting them on stage.

Ballroom House is an investigating show which focuses on developing and creating new ways to present new circus and street dance together. Ballroom House is being created to perform in small, minimal or big spaces. To create the show, a lot of different street dancers and jugglers has been participating and researching around the themes.

Dancer Alexander Dam and juggler Gustaf Rosell has been going deeper into the different concepts and ideas together with director Olle Strandberg.
