Latvian U-18 b-ball team takes down France in opening European Championship match

On Thursday, the Latvian under-18 (U-18) men's basketball team defeated France 58:54 in the opening group game at this year's European U-18 Men's Basketball Championships, informs LETA.

 

The highest scorer for Latvia was Davis Geks with 17 points, followed by Elvis Endzels with 13 points.

 

In the other group match yesterday, Bulgaria defeated Turkey 95:89.

 

Latvia will play its next Group C match this evening against Turkey, and on Saturday against Bulgaria.

 

Latvia and Lithuania are co-hosting this year's U-18 tournament.

 

The top three teams in each of the four groups will qualify for the tournament's second group stage and will have ensured their participation in the A Division next season, whilst the last placed finishers in the group will play each other to stay in the top division.

 

At last year's U-16 European Championships, Latvia finished in 10th place.

 

The roster of the Latvian U-18 men's basketball team participating at this year's European Championships is as follows: Edgars Stelmahers, Dmitrijs Brizgalovs, Elvis Endzels, Davis Geks, Ivars Rihards Zvigurs, Armands Ginters, Toms Leimanis, Ilja Gromovs, Roberts Krastins, Rihards Adins, Ceslavs Mateikovics and Rolands Smits.
