BC, Tallinn, 07.08.2012.Print version

Heiki Nabi won silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling from the London Olympic Games, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

Nabi lost in the final match in the heavyweight category to Mijain Lopez Nunez from Cuba.

Nabi’s medal was the first wrestling medal from Olympic Games since more than 60 years ago; the last medallist wrestler from Estonia was Johannes Kotkas who won a gold medal in the heavyweight category at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.

President Toomas Hendrik Ilves sent his congratulations to Nabi for the silver medal won. “Sports history was made today when Heiki Nabi brought probably the first Olympic medal for Hiiumaa and yet another medal for Estonia,” wrote the President. “I join all those who offer their congratulations and am proud that the feats of Palusalu, Kotkas and other wrestlers have been continued,” stated Ilves.
