Latvian National Theater opens 94th season with ceremony

Yesterday, at a ceremonial gathering of the full company as it heads into its 94th season, the National Theater (NT) honored its standouts from last season, reports LETA.

Lolita Cauka and Gundars Grasbergs were named best actor and actress, and Buchner's drama "Woyczek", directed by Kiril Serebrennikov – the production of the year.

The actors "most in demand", i.e. seen in a large number of productions, were Liga Zelge and Martins Egliens.

NT Managing Director Ojars Rubenis was pleased to announce that ticket sales were up 12% last season, with the play with music "Latgole.lv'' being the most popular show with audiences.
