Samoilovs/Sorokins finish London Olympics in ninth place; Plavins/Smedins advance to quarterfinals
Latvian beach volleyball team Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Ruslans Sorokins lost 0-2 (12:21, 17:21) to this year's European Champions Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann, of Germany, at the London Olympic Games on Saturday, finishing the tournament in ninth place, informs LETA.
Samoilovs/Sorokins had won two matches out of three in Group D, qualifying for the final 16 where they lost to Grink/Reckermann, who had placed first in Group C.
As reported, the other Latvian beach volleyball pair, Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins defeated Norwegian pair Tarjei Viken Skarlund and Martin Spinnangr 2-0 (21:19, 21:16) in the final 16, advancing to the tournament's quarterfinals.
On Monday, Plavins/Smedins will play Americans Sean Rosenthal and Jake Gibb.
