Several thousand Polish football fans wreak havoc in Liepaja

Ahead of tonight's UEFA Europa League qualifier in Liepaja (southwestern Latvia), several thousand Polish football fans have been wreaking havoc in Liepaja by writing graffiti on walls, urinating on the city's streets, drinking alcohol in public, damaging property and lighting fireworks. Several Polish fans have been arrested.


Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 fans of Polish football club Warsaw ''Legia'' have arrived in Liepaja, with local police unable to control the raucous.


Police in Liepaja are on high alert ahead of tonight's qualifier between ''Legia'' and Latvian football club ''Liepajas metalurgs''.


According to some reports, the fans have even vandalized the monument to those lost at sea in Liepaja, reported LETA.
