Latvian and Estonian football teams move up in FIFA rankings; Lithuania down

The Latvian national men's football team has moved up four spots in the latest FIFA football rankings, and is currently ranked 72nd in the world. The Lithuanian side has moved down two spots in the rankings to 90th position this month. Meanwhile, Estonia has moved up one spot to 56th, writes LETA.

 

The Latvian football team currently has 466 ranking points.

 

As reported, Latvia lost to Poland this past May in a friendly 0:1. On the other hand, this past June, Latvian won the Baltic Cup after crushing Lithuania 5:0, and then defeating Finland in the final 2:1.

 

Latvia will play its next official match on September 7, when it will begin its World Cup 2014 qualification campaign at home against Greece.

 

There have been several changes to the top of the ranking since the end of EURO 2012. Spain is ranked first, followed by Germany and Uruguay in third.

 

England is ranked fourth, followed in fifth by Portugal and Italy in sixth.

 

Argentina is ranked seventh, the Netherlands is ranked eighth, Croatia is in ninth, whilst Denmark is ranked 10th.
