Conductor Sirmais leaves Latvian youth choir "Kamer"
Conductor Maris Sirmais, who established youth choir "Kamer" in 1990, has decided to resign and appoint conductor Janis Liepins as the choir's chief conductor.
The choir's director Kristine Zvirbule told LETA that Sirmais' decision to leave the choir was a surprise, yet choir members do understand him, as he has been working with the choir for the past 22 years.
Nothing will change in the choir's schedule due to Sirmais' resignation, added Zvirbule.
Conducted by Sirmais, "Kamer" has successfully participated in a variety of international competitions and projects, and won the Grand Music Award of Latvia twice.
Sirmais is an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Latvia and a recipient of the Order of Three Stars.
