Vilnius Mayor dines in the sky

BC, Vilnius, 15.06.2012.Print version

More than 30 countries from around the world hosted the Dinner in the sky project, a gourmet feast within fifty square meters, with a base of operations that includes Lithuania, the Vilnius Municipality said.

The Dinner in the sky project, which has been included in the top 10 most unusual dining places in the world, is located in the Vilnius City Hall Square since Tuesday, writes LETA/ELTA.

"It is a great feeling! To see our city from an unusual point of view, admire the towers and turrets – it's great fun, a memorable event for everybody, and a good gift to residents and guests alike. I am glad the organizers of the project in the Baltic gave priority to Vilnius," said the Mayor of Vilnius Arturas Zuokas while he landed on the ground.

The restaurant consists of a crane, a special platform with a 22-seat table which can be lifted up to 50 meters. While lifted up in the air, guests will not only enjoy an unprecedented view of the capital, but also exceptional dishes. At the same time, the chef de cuisine is present, serving meals and communicating directly with the guests.

The arrival of culinary arts to Vilnius in the past three years is further demonstrated by the arrival of the owner and chef of the Swedish restaurant Frantzen/ Lindeberg, Bjorn Frantzen. The restaurant was published in the 2012 list of the world's 50 best restaurants, taking the 20th place, taking a leap up from 2011. He will be serving guests on "Dinner in the Sky".

Frantzen promises to please Vilnius' palates with truffles, bleak caviar, smoked eel, artichokes, chanterelles, black tea mousse, maple syrup, pickled tomatoes and other delicacies. The tour of Dinner in the Sky in Vilnius will also feature a local chef. The Municipality of Vilnius and the company Electrolux contributed to the organization of the project, while Pernod Ricard MUMMI contributed with the champagne.

Those wishing to visit the Sky restaurant are already able to book places, choosing between breakfast, lunch, champagne and dinner in the sky. A lift takes between 20 to 60 minutes, and the dinner in the sky prices start at EUR 99.

In 2008 Belgium launched the project Events in the Sky. All the equipment is designed in accordance with the German DIN 4112 standard, and has received safety approvals from very strict safety requirements found in the US, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
