New February 2 cold record registered in Latvian Zoseni – minus 30.7 degrees Celsius

Last night was the coldest February 2 night in Latvia's history: temperature in Zoseni (northeastern Latvia) reduced to minus 30.7 degrees Celsius, Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center informed LETA.

The previous February 2 record was registered in 1976, when the reading was at minus 26 degrees in Northern Vidzeme.

On the other hand, the lowest temperature registered on February 1 goes back to 1956, when temperatures in Daugavpils decreased to minus 41.1 degrees, and the record low temperature for February 3 was registered in 1966 in Zoseni: minus 34.8 degrees.

Last night, temperature in Daugavpils dipped to minus 29.9 degrees Celsius, Zilani recorded minus 28.4 degrees, Rezekne had minus 27 degrees, Bauska – minus 26.9 degrees, Gulbene – minus 26.1 degrees, Jelgava – minus 25.9 degrees.

Cold weather is also forecast for the coming days: minimum temperature will be at minus 25-30 degrees, and even minus 32 degrees in the eastern regions.
