Estonian MP dies during visit to China

Estonian Riigikogu member, Social Democratic Party representative Peeter Kreitzberg died during a working visit in China, Estonian press reports.

 

Peeter Kreitzberg was on a visit of the Riigikogu Estonian-Chinese parliament group in China; the visit was to last from October 28 to November 4, writes LETA.

 

In addition to him, Kalev Kallo, Maret Maripuu and Sven Sester were part of the delegation.

 

Kreitzberg died in his hotel room. Maripuu told National Broadcasting that it is too early to speak about the causes of death and that Estonian consul is handling the matters. “He was a citizen of a foreign state in China who was on an official visit here. There is a lot that has to be done. To say what the cause of death was, none of us knows that,” said Maripuu.

 

Kreitzberg was 62. He had three children. He was Estonia’s culture and education minister in 1995. In 1996-1999 he was deputy mayor of Tallinn. He was a Riigikogu member since 1999; Riigikogu deputy chairman in 2001-2003 and 2003-2005. Since 1997, he was also a professor at the Tallinn University.
