President Valdas Adamkus on Thursday granted Lithuanian citizenship by way of exception to Canadian national monsignor Stasys Zilys, cherisher of Lithuanian identity, translator of poetry and painter, informs ELTA.

The head of state made this decision having considered the priest"s activities aimed to unite Lithuanian emigrants abroad, cherish national identity and his close links to Lithuania.
