So far, the Riga City Council has received six applications for public assemblies on WWII Latvian Legion Day March 16, an unofficial holiday.

The veterans welfare organization "Daugavas Vanagi" has planned its traditional procession to the Freedom Monument. "Daugavas Vanagi" Limbazi branch has also submitted its application to the Riga City Council, writes LETA.

The "Latvian Anti-Fascist Committee" plans to hold "A Meeting Against Glorification of Fascism in Latvia" from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The organization "Union of Citizens and Non-citizens" has also scheduled a meeting with the same name, at the same time.

Pjotrs Gruca plans to "Protest Against Extolling Hitler's Army – Latvian Legion of the "Waffen SS"" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also, a senior citizens' group called the "Simtgadnieku kustiba" intends to gather at the "Laima" Clock for an event unrelated to Legion Day.

The Riga City Council will announce its decision on the public assemblies on March 15.

Last year, the Riga City Council banned all public events at the Freedom Monument on March 16 Latvian Legion Day, as recommended by the authorities.
