Popular Latvian musician and composer Martins Freimanis dies

Latvian composer, actor and poet Martins Freimanis died in hospital at the age of 33 last night, Mikrofona ieraksti record company's representative Guntars Racs told LETA.

Freimanis had been in hospital for several days, it is possible that he died of flu complications.

Freimanis was born in Liepaja on February 7, 1977.

Freimanis was the lead singer for the pop/rock band "Tumsa" since 1994. The band has released six albums, making Freimanis one of the most popular singers in Latvia. Freimanis also wrote songs for other popular singers and bands, including Lauris Reiniks, "Putnu balle", "PeR" and others.

In 2004, a book of Freimanis' poems was published; Freimanis also had the title role in Liepaja Theater's production "Kaupen, mans milais" in 2005, and he debuted in Latvian State Television's television series "Neprata cena" in 2007.
