The head coach of the Latvian national men's football team, Aleksandrs Starkovs, has accepted an offer from the Azerbaijani football club ''Baku'' to become its head coach.

Starkovs had traveled to Baku at the end of December, where he met with the football club's leadership, informs LETA.

Starkovs was the head coach of Latvian football club Riga ''Skonto'' last season, leading it to the Latvian Football League title.

''Skonto'' announced Tuesday that all sides have come to agreement on Starkovs' relocating to Azerbaijan. Even though no contract has been signed yet, Starkovs confirmed that his next career move is clear.

As reported, former Latvian national football team forward Marians Pahars will become the head coach of Riga ''Skonto'' next season, according to the press secretary of the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) Martins Hartmanis.

LETA also reported, Starkovs has coached ''Skonto'' on and off since 1993, and lead the club to the Latvian Football League title this past season.

Starkovs was also the head coach of the Latvian national football team when it surprisingly qualified for EURO 2004.

At the moment, ''Baku'' is in seventh place in the Azerbaijan Football League with 28 points from 19 matches.
