Dombrovskis wishes Latvians family warmth and understanding on Christmas

BC, Riga, 23.12.2010.Print version

In his greeting to the people of Latvia for Christmas 2010, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis accents the values of family and mutual understanding.

"Christmas – a family, peace and mutual understanding holiday. These are values that we always yearn for, regardless of where we work, what schools we attended, and what goals we want to reach," the greeting reads.

The premier reminds that as children are a reflection of their families, the daily lives of adults too are for the most part based on the emotional energy that everyone receives from loved ones. "Often we don't even realize how instrumental in our daily travails are those thoughts and emotions which we leave behind closed doors when we venture into society."

Dombrovskis opines that despite the power of modern technology and communications, which brings people closer together, we come to realize that we are "behind it all", that we are at the core. Events and developments can be influenced from a distance nowadays, but this is only a fleeting moment, it cannot replace the human desire for true support and understanding, the closeness of another person, the right words at the right time, the gift of a smile.

"This Christmas, may you rejoice in wishes received in sincere kindness, may your homes and families provide you with the feeling of peace and support that each and every one of us longs for in these difficult times," the greeting ends.
