Lithuania declares 2012 the Year of the poet Maironis

Print versionThe Seimas has declared 2012 the Year of Maironis.
MPs passed such a resolution on Tuesday, with regard to the fact that 2012 would see the 150 anniversary of the poet Jonas Maciulis-Maironis. The resolution was favoured by 55 MPs, 2 MPs abstained from voting, informs LETA/ELTA.
MPs suggested the Government to set up a commission for the celebration of the poet John Maciulis-Maironis' 150th birth anniversary and draw up a state programme for the Year of Maironis.
It is proposed to provide public funding for the state programme for the Year of Maironis from the state budgets for 2011 and 2012.
