Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius will meet the New Year in Estonia which is to adopt the euro from the beginning of 2011. "Congratulations to our neighbour Estonia.  I will go there on the festive night – on New Year's Eve, when Estonia will officially start using the euro at the beginning of the New Year," Kubilius told reporters after the Government Hour at the Seimas on Thursday.

It is a good example for Lithuania, Kubilius said.

The prime minister, when asked whether Lithuania could adopt the euro by 2014, said: "It has been done a lot in this area. First, the collapse of the financial system has been prevented, and the deficit is consistently reduced in accordance with the convergence programme. This is one of the key Maastricht criteria for joining the euro area.", writes LETA/ELTA.
