85 people drowned in Estonia in 8 months

In the first eight months of the year 2010, 85 people drowned in Estonia, 35 of them in July, National Broadcasting/LETA reports.

 

Last year 61 people drowned during the whole year.

 

Out of the people who drowned in the first eight months of this year, 72 were men. 10 were women and the gender of three was not ascertained. 58% of the drowned had consumed alcohol.

 

Interior ministry internal security deputy chancellor Erkki Koort told a press conference on Wednesday that the worrying thing is that 7% of the drowned were less than 18 years old. The oldest of the minors was 15 and youngest were 1.5.

 

The amount of the drowned was the biggest in the age-group 50-59 (16), followed by 60-69-year-olds (11) and 40-49-year-olds (10).
