In April 2009, U.S. heavy metal band ''Metallica'' will performs two concerts in Riga, as concert organizer FBI spokesman Kristaps Karklins told LETA.

The concerts will take place on April 17 and April 18, and will be performed in ''Arena Riga''.

This is the first time that such a world renowned band will perform two concerts in Riga.

Karklins also added that 14,500 persons will be able to see each concert in ''Arena Riga''.

The group will arrive in Latvia as part of its ''World Magnetic Tour'', which began in 2008. Since the beginning of the tour, the band has performed over 100 concerts in the United States and Europe. The tour will continue into 2010.

The tour itself is to promote the band's latest album – ''Death Magnetic'', which is the band's ninth studio album. The album was released in September of last year, and reached the ''Billboard'' chart's first position three days after it was released.

This past April, ''Metallica'' was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band also won two ''Grammy'' awards this year.

Ticket information will be released in the near future.

''Metallica'' performed a concert in ''Skonto'' Stadium in Riga in July last year, and 32,000 persons attended. Tickets to the concert were sold out in 90 minutes.
