American Documentary Film Tour starts in Lithuania

The American Center of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius and Tinklai International Short Film Festival are pleased to announce a touring program of thirteen prestigious contemporary U.S. documentaries.

 

The program, selected by the University Film and Video Association (UFVA) in partnership with the International Documentary Association (IDA) offers a broad and diversified look at American life and values. The selected films embrace a myriad of themes acutely specific to the U.S.A. They range from racial and ethnic issues, questions of exile and identity to the ubiquitous pop-culture, from the pivotal times in American history to issues of tolerance in modern USA. Attention is also brought to themes of health and environment which are close to everyone‘s heart.      

 

Three films out of thirteen have been nominated for Oscar Academy Awards, two of them have received Emmy Awards and others have been award winners at various International and U.S. film festivals.  

 

The touring program of U.S. documentaries will be screened in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, and Panevėžys. Audiences in Vilnius and Kaunas will have an opportunity to meet with Allen Mondell, the director of film “A Fair to Remember” (2007) and film specialist William Murphy.

 

Fragments of America – U.S. Documentary will be shown in:

 

 Vilnius from September 20 to October 7 at cinema „Pasaka“ , Šv.Ignoto 4/3, Vilnius;

 

Panevėžys  from October 2 to 15 at cinema „Garsas“, Respublikos g. 40, Panevėžys;

 

Kaunas from October 19 to 30 at the VMU Club „Sesija“,  Daukanto g. 27, Kaunas;

 

Šiauliai  from October 20 to 24 and from October 27 to 31 at „Aušros“ Museum, Ch. Frenkell‘s Villa, Vilniaus g. 74, Šiauliai; 

 

Klaipėda  from October 3 to 8 at Klaipėda Art Exhibition Hall, Aukštoji g. 1/Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda.

 

The public will have free entrance to all the screenings.
