Situation with swine flu in Estonia is calm
Print versionThe Health Protection Inspectorate ion Estonia assessed that thus far, Estonia has managed to keep the spreading of the new flu under control and the current situation is calm, writes the National Broadcasting/LETA.
As of Saturday, there were 21 patients who had contracted the new flu that has been dubbed swine flu in colloquial use. Although new flu patients are added every week, it cannot yet been called an epidemic. At the same time, medical doctors state that once the virus starts spreading, it will do so quickly.
“It is now estimated that if we will have an increase in the contracting of this new flu virus, it might happen when the weather will start getting colder – in August or in September,” said the head of the virus’ centre department of the Western-Tallinn Central Hospital Kristi Ott.
When debating, which groups should be the first ones to be vaccinated once the vaccine will arrive, Estonia will follow the recommendations of WHO, but will also turn to the European Agency of Medicines and different professional organisations before making the definitive decision.
