In the opinion of the majority of Lithuanian residents (73.5%), the most important event in public life in 2008 was the parliamentary elections held in autumn, writes ELTA.

However, according to the results of the opinion poll, half of Lithuanian residents (49%) indicated being dissatisfied with the election results. Slightly over a third of respondents (36%) assessed them positively and 15% of the surveyed had no opinion on this issue.

As the results of the survey conducted by the public opinion and market research company Baltijos Tyrimai on December 4-14 showed, the youth at the age of up to 30 years were more satisfied with the outcome of the parliamentary elections than the residents belonging to other age groups. Among these young people, 42% stated viewing the election results favorably, whereas 33% of them expressed their dissatisfaction.

Among those polled, the most notable difference was observed in the opinion of respondents with right-wing and leftist views. Two thirds (67%) of respondents supporting the right-wing parties were satisfied with the results of parliamentary elections and three quarters (77%) of the surveyed favoring the leftist parties indicated their disappointment with the election results.

Only the electors of three parties – the Nation"s Resurrection Party (76%), the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party (74%) and the Liberal and Centre Union (59%) – were more satisfied than dissatisfied with the results of the recent parliamentary elections.
