Temperatures were sub-zero in all of Latvia overnight (on January 3-4), but the lowest reading was in the town of Rucava in Liepaja District (SW Latvia) at minus 22 Celsius, reports LETA.

In Riga at 5 a.m. on January 4, it was minus 15, while Ainazi, Rezekne and Bauska registered minus 17.

Daugavpils (SE Latvia) was at minus 19.

This was the chilliest night this winter.

Cold weather will be the case today as well with occasional flurries or snow showers. Daytime highs will be at minus 3, lows at minus 12, especially in the east.

It is minus 11 at this hour in Riga.

Forecasters are saying that in eastern and southeastern Latvia tonight, temperatures could drop as low as minus 25, but the rest of Latvia will be between 15 and 20.
