The general assembly of the Estonian Academy of Sciences has bestowed the Karl Schlossmann medal on Irja Lutsar, professor at the Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine of the University of Tartu, writes LETA/BNS. 

The medal was awarded to Lutsar in recognition of her contribution to mitigating the COVID-19 crisis, spokespeople for the academy said.

Thanks to Lutsar's competence, the right decisions were made during the coronavirus crisis, the government was provided with competent advice and the society was convinced to comply with scientifically justified rules of conduct, according to the academy's general assembly.

Medals were also awarded to member of the Council of the Constitutional Law Foundation Rait Matuste, ambassador Riivo Sinijarv and long-time employee of the Estonian Academy of Sciences Anne Poitel.
