Latvia: Valters Silis honored at Actors' Night ceremony as stage director of the year

 Stage director Valters Silis and his production "The Boy Who Saw in the Darkness" triumphed at this year's Actors' Night Awards ceremony, Ricards Vorobjovs, a representative of the Latvian trade union of theater employees, informed LETA. 


The annual Actors' Night Awards celebrate the best theatrical productions and acting achievements on the legendary Latvian stage director Eduards Smilgis' birthday. This year, the awards ceremony was held remotely at the Liepaja Theater in the presence of a handful of spectators. 


Stage director Mara Kimele and actor Leonids Lencs were presented with life achievement awards and director Elmars Senkovs' "Shakespeare" was awarded as the production of the year.


Silis received the Actors' Night Award as the director of the year and Inese Kucinska was named actress of the year for the role of Richard III in "Shakespeare". Karlis Reijers won the Actors' Night Award as the actor of the year for roles in "The Boy Who Saw in the Dark", "The Cauldron" and "Margareth".


"Shakespeare" also won the audience award as the best production.
