Fogelis elected president of International Luge Federation

BC, Riga , 20.11.2020.Print version

Einars Fogelis has been unanimously elected the president of the International Luge Federation (FIL) at the FIL congress today, writes LETA.

Fogelis was the only candidate for the post. To become the president of FIL, a candidate must receive the support of at least half of the members of the federation. Fogelis received 30 votes.

The previous FIL President Josef Fendt said this past February that he would step down at the next congress. The congress was due to take place in June, but because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed to the fall and tool place as a remote meeting on Friday.

The 73-year-old Fendt resigned after more than 26 years in office. Fogelis has been the FIL Secretary General, and Fendt wanted to see Fogelis as his successor.

Fogelis has been the FIL secretary general since the summer of 2018, before that he was the FIL vice president for technical matters.

Fogelis is also the president of the Latvian Council of Sports Federations (LSFP) and chairman of the board of the Latvian Olympic Unit (LOV).
