Lithuania reported on Wednesday 776 new coronavirus infections, a new record daily increase since the start of the pandemic, and three deaths from COVID-19, informs LETA/BNS.

This brings Lithuania's total COVID-19 count to 12,138 positive cases, the Health Ministry said. The country currently has 7,440 active coronavirus cases and 4,502 recoveries. The coronavirus death toll stands at 144, and another 52 coronavirus-infected people have died of other causes.

Some 28,770 people are currently in isolation.

The country has since June 1 registered 393 cases of coronavirus infection contracted abroad.

A total of 975,158 tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in Lithuania so far, including 10,806 over the past 24 hours.

Latvia recorded 251 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) informed.

With 6,015 Covid-19 tests carried out over the past 24 hours, the share of positive tests was 4.2%. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 3%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, 5,144 people in Latvia have tested positive for Covid-19. The total number of patients who have recovered from the coronavirus disease has risen to 1,382.
