Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival to support ending forest clear cutting in Estonia

BC, Tallinn, 17.09.2020.Print version

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will allocate one euro from the registration fee of each of the films submitted to the festival for stopping forest clear cutting in Estonia.

The money will go to Estonian forest owners via the platform of the Single.Earth startup in order for forest owners to refrain from clear cutting and use more sustainable methods of forest management instead, spokespeople for the festival said on Thursday.

Single.Earth is a new Estonian high tech startup which helps businesses and organizations caring for the environment to take real steps to stop climate change.

"With this move, we wish to draw attention to acute problems of environment policy, which the international entertainment industry rather prefers to ignore. This is not sustainable action. We believe that Single.Earth offers solutions that may help change the way people think," said the author of the initiative by Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, the festival's communication chief Hannes Aava.

Merit Valdsalu, co-founder and CEO of Single.Earth, expressed their pleasure over Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival joining their initiative.

"Hopefully their initiative will help the entire international film industry take a big step towards a more sustainable future," she said.

The 24th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place from Nov. 13-29.
