Zanda Kergalve, head of the Association of Culture Institutions of the Riga City Council, has been selected to head the Latvian Ethnographic Open-air Musesum, as the Culture Ministry's State Secretary Dace Vilsone told the LETA.

The task of the new Ethnographic Open-air Museum's director will be to ensure change management at the museum, primarily by eliminating violations identified during inspections carried out by the Culture Ministry and the State Audit Office. The new museum director will also be responsible for systematic development of the museum and popularizing it internationally.

Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis (National Alliance) said that the museum's new director had to have managerial competencies, the ability to work in a team, a clear vision and courage. The ministry anticipates that the museum will become one of the leading open-air museums in the Baltics and Europe.

Vilsone described Kergalve as a strong and experienced professional who has proven herself, among other things, as a leader of a large team of cultural workers and major cultural events.

As the head of the Association of Culture Institutions of the Riga City Council, Kergalve was overseeing concert organization Ave Sol, Riga chamber choir Ave Sol, culture center Ilguciems, culture and recreational center Imanta, culture center Ziemelblazma, Riga St. Peter's Church Administration, Riga Porcelain Museum, Aleksandrs Caks Memorial Museum, Riga Art Nouveau Museum, exhibition hall Riga Art Space.

As reported, the Culture Ministry terminated the previous Ethnographic Open-Air Museum Director Ilze Millersone's employment contract this past April due to violations of the law on Millersone's part.
