More than 500 people took part in a rally outside the Belarusian Embassy in Riga this evening to show support for the protesters in Belarus, LETA observed.

Participants in the rally held placards expressing support for Belarusian people, calling for release of political prisoners in Belarus, and condemning Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. They were chanting "Freedom for Belarusians!" and urging Lukashenko to step down.

The rally was addressed by former Saeima member Lolita Cigane, former Latvian Popular Front head Dainis Ivans, and European Parliament member Sandra Kalniete (New Unity).

Participants in the rally then sang the national anthem of Latvia and dispersed.

A large number of police officers observed the rally to make sure that no protesters were in the immediate vicinity of the Belarusian Embassy building.
