Montenegrin national team defender Marko Simic, who currently plays for Latvian football club FC Liepaja, has tested positive for Covid-19, the club's general manager Davids Jansons confirmed to LETA.

The footballer arrived to Latvia from Serbia on July 27, and was tested the next day after arriving to Latvia.

The 33-year-old defender was since undergone self-quarantine.

''We tested Simic on Monday, and it was positive,'' Jansons said. ''Now he will be sitting at home in self-quarantine.''

Jansons also confirmed that the rest of the team and coaching staff were also tested today to make sure that nobody else within the club is infected with the virus.

Jansons added that the Montenegrin footballer has not been in in any contact with club players since he arrived and just an administrative staff member.

''We are confident that this incident will not hinder us in preparations for our next match on Saturday,'' he added.
