The spectacular Merks Cup tennis exhibition tournament in Tallinn ended on Thursday with Estonia defeating Latvia 6-5, informs LETA/BNS.

As reported, on the first day of the tournament on Wednesday, Latvia won three matches and Estonia won two.

Yesterday, Anastasija Sevastova lost to Kaia Kanepi 6-7 (1:7), 6-2, Karlis Ozolins beat Jurgen Zopp 7-6 (7:4), 6-7 (5:7), 10:8, in women's doubles Alona Ostapenko and Sevastova were defeated by Kanepi and Anett Kontaveit 6-4, 5-7, 7:10, Ernests Gulbis beat Vladimir Ivanov 7-6 (8:6), 3-6, 10:7, Ostapenko lost to Kontaveit 2-6, 7-6 (7:1), 7:10. In the last, mixed doubles match, the Estonian team defeated Latvia 7-5.

The Latvian team was made up of Ostapenko (ranked 41st in the WTA rankings), Sevastova (43rd in WTA rankings), Gulbis (162nd in ATP rankings) and Ozolins (1,133rd in ATP rankings).

The Estonian team included Kontaveit (22nd in WTA rankings), Kanepi (99th in WTA rankings), Zopp (540th in ATP rankings) and Ivanov (738th in ATP rankings).
